Camden Revolutionary Site #3 Aged - This house was built by Joseph Kershaw, a native of Yorkshire, England in 1758 in Camden, SC. It was one of the first inland town in the state. During the Revolutionary War, Lord Charles Cornwallis took charge of the house in May of 1780 and occupied it during the Battle of Camden, the worst American battle defeat of the Revolution (August 16, 1780), nine miles north of the mansion.
